Ecuadorian authorities have accused members of the opposition political group, known as ‘the bad losers,’ of attempting to orchestrate an assassination plot against the country’s president, Guillermo Lasso. The accusations were made in a statement released by the National Security Council (Consejo Nacional de Seguridad) and further elaborated upon during a press conference addressed by President Lasso himself. The administration has vowed to pursue all legal avenues to bring those responsible to justice. This comes as Ecuador remains embroiled in political turmoil following Lasso’s recent controversial election victory, with opposition groups actively challenging his authority.
