Red Bull Ousts Christian Horner After Two Decades as Team Principal

In a seismic shift for the world of Formula 1, Red Bull has terminated the tenure of Christian Horner, the team’s principal and a pivotal figure since its inception in 2005. The decision, announced on Wednesday, brings an end to Horner’s 20-year leadership, a period marked by unprecedented success and, more recently, considerable controversy.

Christian Horner has been dismissed from his role at Red Bull Racing.

Horner’s dismissal follows an internal investigation into allegations of “inappropriate behaviour” made by a female colleague. While Horner was previously cleared of these claims by Red Bull’s parent company, Red Bull GmBH, the circumstances surrounding his departure remain significant.

Red Bull GmBH confirmed the change in a statement, declaring: “Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today and has appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO (chief executive) of Red Bull Racing.” The statement did not elaborate further on the reasons for the dismissal.

The departure of Horner, a charismatic and often formidable leader, leaves a considerable void at the top of one of Formula 1’s most dominant teams. His leadership saw Red Bull achieve multiple Constructors’ and Drivers’ World Championships, cementing its status as a powerhouse in the sport. The intricacies of this sudden change are expected to unfold in the coming days and weeks, with the F1 community keenly watching the implications for Red Bull Racing’s future strategy and performance.
