Stormzy’s Album-Writing Island Sells for £25 Million – A Unique Retreat Near London
British grime icon Stormzy has left his mark on Osea Island, a privately owned 380-acre (1.5 square kilometer) estate in the Blackwater Estuary near Maldon, Essex, and now that unique space is available for purchase—with an estimated price tag of over £25 million ($33 million). Owned by music producer Nigel Frieda, Osea Island offers a rare blend of seclusion, natural beauty, and historical significance. Beyond Stormzy’s recent work on his latest album, the island has a rich history as a filming location, having hosted the 1989 television adaptation and the 2012 film *The Woman in Black*.
The island’s appeal extends beyond its artistic connections; it boasts stunning coastal views, extensive woodland, and a fascinating tidal landscape that’s completely cut off at high tide. It has also been rented by global superstar Rihanna for private retreats and events.
Fine and Country estate agents are currently fielding considerable interest in the property. Simon Fielding, one of the listing agents, stated, “We already have several bids on it and some of them are in excess of the guide price.” He anticipates that the island will be acquired by operators who intend to utilize its potential as a high-end venue, event space, or luxury letting facility – mirroring its existing use.
Adding to Osea Island’s allure is its convenient proximity to London. The estate agent highlighted this as a significant selling point, emphasizing the accessibility and beauty of the location. Local celebrity Olly Murs also tied the knot on the island in 2023, further cementing its reputation as a desirable destination.
The property’s isolation and dramatic history make it an exceptionally rare opportunity for a discerning buyer seeking both privacy and prestige.
